The Beer Bag Project
The Beer bag project was set up by Annie Boalch and Sarah WIlliams in January 2008. The idea was to address two issues:
- to encourage a reduction in the number of plastic bags people use in the village by providing an environmentally friendly option.
- to raise funds for village charities and projects
We found 20 local businesses to sponsor the production of 600 bags. Each business paid £50 and their names were then listed on the back of the bag. The design for the front of the bag was developed by Amelia Boalch and Sarah Williams. We wanted a design to reflect the nature of the village that would appeal to villagers and visitors alike.
The fairtrade bags were printed and supplied for us by GO JUTE (www.gojute.co.uk). We chose jute because it is environmentally friendly and the bags are fully biodegradeable.
The bags are available with either long or short handles and cost £4.00 each
Our first bags arrived in July 2008 and were sold out within 3 months. Over £2000 was raised which was divided up and donated to the charities and village groups listed on this website. We are now selling our third run of Beer Bags and the project is going from strength to strength.
